North Kohala is the birthplace of Hawaii's first and greatest King Kamehameha, meaning "the lonely one". He was the first king to unite Hawaii's major islands. North Kohala was also once a bustling sugar metropolis encompassing seven mill sites, a railroad system, and one of the greatest engineering feats of its day, the Kohala Ditch water irrigation system. Hawi and Kapaau are the largest villages in the North Kohala area and offer quaint restaurants and small souvenir shops. Located less than an hour away from the five star luxury resorts of Kohala's sun coast, ATV, bicycling, horseback riding, hiking, whale and dolphin sightings, and kayak rides are nearby adventure activities for guests. Pololu Valley and Keokea Beach Park are within three miles of Kohala's Guesthouse which is owned and operated by lifetime residents, Donald and Nani Svendsen. If you are looking for a Hawaii vacation rental near some beautiful Kohala sites, Kohala’s Guest House is very convenient. |
